Serving the Poor

Following the example of Christ, and the Church’s long tradition of charitable works, the Human Needs Committee seeks to help the poor. The parish’s outreach includes the Tappahannock area and the Mattoponi Indian Reservation in West Point. Projects include:

“Pantry Sunday” (third Sunday of the month)
Parishioners drop off non-perishable food items in the commons of the church, which are then donated to the local food bank.

Operation In As Much (April) One weekend a year parishioners aid in multiple opportunities to assist the poor.

Annual Coat, Sweater, and Blanket Drive (October)
These items are dropped off at St. Jude Hall, collected, and then delivered to Social Services of Tappahannock.

Donation of food and gifts at Thanksgiving and Christmas (November and December).

Using funds donated by parishioners, the Human Needs Committee purchases food gifts cards to distribute to those in need.
